Wannamal 2007
- Completely unproductive country despite several previous attempts at pasture establishment
- 250ha clayed at 200ton per ha from the same pit (now a substantial water supply)
- Very impressive establishment of perennial and annual pastures
This farm consists almost entirely of deep white non-wetting sand. Several attempts to establish various pastures failed despite the addition of large quantities of pig manure mulch from the property's grow-out facility.
When an initial 40ha clayspreading trial produced outstanding pasture establishment results it was decided to continue the program. Since no clay could be found on the western end of the property 250 hectares was spread from one clay pit. This hole, some 10 metres deep containing 5 metres of fresh water, is now a backup supply for the piggery.
The clayspreading operation has transformed this unproductive land into good grazing country supporting summer perennial and winter annual pastures.
